East Anglian League home

The East Anglian Autograss League is one of 21 regional Leagues currently promoting the sport of National Autograss racing as members of the National Autograss Sport Association (NASA). The East Anglian League comprises two clubs, Cambridge Autograss Club and St Neots Autograss Club, both of which have been in existence since the early 1970s. The combined catchment area of the two clubs covers Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Suffolk and Norfolk, although the clubs also draw members from areas further afield such as Essex and Kent. These results are subject to end of season scrutineering checks for restricted classes.

Scrutineering will take place at BP Grassing, Keysoe on 8 November 2009.

All drivers who are required for checking will be notified by letter and allocated a time slot. Anyone who believes they have earned a club or league trophy in Class 1, Class 2, Juniors, Junior Specials, Class 11 or Class 11A, and who has not received a letter by the beginning of November, should contact a club or league scrutineer.

UPDATED - Post season scrutineering has now been completed and all cars checked were found satisfactory. The League Championship table is now confirmed as final.

Congratulations to East Anglia’s qualifiers for the National Championships - to be held at Radford, nr Inkberrow, Worcestershire on August 1 and 2 2009.

ALL CARS ATTENDING THE NATIONALS MUST BE PRE-SCRUTINEERED BY THE LEAGUE AND MUST BE PRESENTED AT THE NATIONALS WITH A SCRUTINEERING CHECKLIST SIGNED OFF BY THE LEAGUE CHIEF SCRUTINEER AND LEAGUE CHAIRMAN. 2009 club membership (including NASA licence fees and insurance) will be as follows (applicable to Cambridge and St Neots clubs)

Please remember that only licence holders who are signed on for the meeting are allowed in the pits during racing - I.e. Drivers, licenced mechanics and signed on officials only. Drivers and mechanics must be wearing overalls and officials will have the appropriate official jacket. Anyone not entitled to be in the pits will be asked to leave, so please make sure all members of your family/team purchase the appropriate licences. Licence forms are now available from the club secretaries or may be completed at the signing on nights (dates shown above).

EAST ANGLIAN RACING PROCEDURE 2009

Failure to abide by these rules may result in disciplinary action

Each licenced member is expected to participate in the running of a meeting.
All drivers must pass scrutineering with the cars they will be racing, to check seat belts, helmets etc; this includes Ladies and Juniors in shared cars.
All cars will be expected to arrive at scrutineering in a “repaired and clean” condition following any recent damage.
All East Anglian members to be scrutineered 30 minutes and signed on 15 minutes before advertised race time. N.B. Scrutineering will cease before drivers’ briefing i.e. 15 minutes before start time. Failure to do so will result in no grid allocation.
All Men’s and Junior class heats will be from a straight-line start. Grid positions are drawn for. If there is an over spill of cars the block will be split into heats of equal numbers where possible by pit control. Race distance to be 4-6 laps.
Ladies will run in NASA classes with relevant staggers.
If there are insufficient cars to constitute a race (i.e.; 5) the class may be amalgamated using staggers where possible.
To score Club and League points, cars must be registered to a League member who holds a full, current NASA licence. For National Qualifiers, the rules are as per the application sheet.
Day Licences are issued to registered cars only and restricted to only one licence per season.
Any car being driven by a driver on a day licence will receive no points.
After completing 2 heats the top point scores will be eligible for class finals, providing they have started at least 1 heat. Maximum of 8 cars. Race distance 4-6 laps.
Point system for heats & finals as per National format i.e., 55, 45, 36, 28, 21, 15, 10, 6,3, & 1.
In Classes 1 to 10 it is the car that receives the points. In the Ladies’ classes and Juniors it is the driver, due to shared cars. Points will be awarded to the first car driven at any one meeting as per NASA rule book.
Anyone not qualifying for a class final will be eligible to take part in ‘B’/‘C’/’D’ finals (as appropriate - dependings on point scored in the 2 heats) These will replace the Non Qualifiers Race. Winner of A Final will qualify for a place in Champion of Champions race. No substitutes to be allowed in “A” Finals
East Anglian League points will be scored from all heats and A Finals on Sunday meetings plus the Saturday of the East Anglian Open. No points would be awarded at a BAS meeting. Club points will apply for the Sunday only of the East Anglian Open when not a BAS Round
If a heat or a final is stopped before the lead car has completed 2 laps, a complete restart will occur with cars assuming original starting positions less disqualification's (if any).
If the lead car has completed 4 laps or taken the last lap flag, the result will be taken as on the last lap completed. The above rules are not applicable to Open Races.
If a meeting is not fully completed, ie all class finals run, points will be awarded for each “complete” set of heats that has been run.
All East Anglian League drivers, except Juniors, will be eligible to take part in the East Anglian Championship Open Races. These races will take the form of Open races for the first 20 cars to line up, over 8-10 laps starting on class grading. Each club will hold one heat on each Sunday meeting with points being accumulated towards an end of year Championship as follows: Winner =20 points, 2nd=19 etc.. All cars starting will receive at least 1 point.
If any Open race is halted following 2 restarts, the race will be abandoned.
All class cars must have provisions of the fitting of seals as directed by the Chief Scrutineer/Assistants, as per spec sheets.
All restricted class drivers MUST complete the restricted class form and return for signing before being allowed to race. The second part of the form must be sent to the League points secretary to enable you to score points. If tags are not fitted as required, the driver will be compelled to race in an appropriate Non-Restricted Class
Champion of Champions Race: winners and runners up from Men’s & Ladies finals will be eligible for this race, for a single trophy. Race distance 8 laps, graded start according to class. Points will be awarded for an end of year Championship.
National Qualifying registration forms must be returned to the League Secretary before the stated date. Drivers can use either the five National Qualifying rounds, minus their lowest score, or five rounds plus League positions from the previous year, minus the two lowest scores. The top point scorers will have first priority for the allocation of Nationals places. NO substitute drivers and/or cars allowed.
All drivers have the right to protest against fellow class competitors’ cars by handing a written complaint either to the Complaints Officer or East Anglian Chief Scrutineer, along with £30 or sufficient money to cover cost of gaskets and sundries if the car protested is found legal.
Any driver not attending track erection for the East Anglian League hosted meeting could forfeit East Anglian points; drivers may send representatives providing they hold a NASA licence. Track erection dates and time to be announced.
The engine/engines & associated components, i.e. gearbox, carburettor etc, of cars in trophy positions must be available for stripping and checking at the end of season. Venues, dates and times to be announced. Failure to attend will result in disqualification and the engines will be required to be checked before commencing the following season.
If any discrepancies are found at post season scrutineering, the East Anglian scrutineers will retain engines/components.
Decisions made at League level discerning vehicle eligibility will be binding by the Clubs.
All drivers under 18 years of age, must show their birth certificate when joining their club for first time, and complete a small driving test on arrangement with their Chairman.
Drivers receiving a ban for any reason will NOT be allowed a substitute driver to accumulate points.
Final positions may be amended if green flags are issued.
No driver will be considered in the end of season points unless they have competed in three different League race meetings. One must be at the sister club. For club points, 2 meetings must be at your home venue.
If a driver receives two black flags, these may be recorded in his rule book and he may then receive one meeting’s ban at the Committee’s discretion.
Any League/Club/Official/Competitor or member who takes legal action against the East Anglian League or any Club within will have their permit or membership suspended, until such time as the action has been resolved.

NATIONAL QUALIFYING RULES 2009

To be eligible to score National Qualifying points, drivers must register with the League Secretary. The registration form may be obtained from the League clubs, or from race control at any of the National Qualifying meetings, or the form may be downloaded HERE.

To amass the 4 qualifying sets of points, drivers may use either the 5 qualifying rounds minus the lowest score, or 5 rounds plus their position in previous year’s League Championship, minus the 2 lowest scores. The top point scorers will have the first priority in taking any places allocated by NASA to the East Anglian League. NO substitute drivers and/or cars will be allowed for qualifying within the East Anglian League.

There is a registration fee of £5 per named driver, which will be returned to the driver who obtains an allocation, with a donation to the value of £15 from the League. If you accept a place, including a reserve place, and cannot attend, you MUST inform the League Secretary on or before Monday 27th July 2009, to enable substitute drivers to be contacted. Failure to do this will mean that you will lose the right to qualify for the Nationals in the following year.

The form with the correct moneys, must reach the League Points Secretary before 5-00 pm on Sunday 17th May 2009. Drivers must compete in at least one meeting at each venue during 2009. RESTRICTED CLASS RULES 2009

RULES FOR RESTRICTED CLASS CARS 2009

All engines used during the season must be presented for post-season scrutineering.

Enginers must have holes drilled as per spec sheet for the fitting of seals.

No seals to be removed or cut except by a chief Scrutineer and in the presence of his assistant.

If the engine is to be disassembled it must be done at a designated or nominated venue.

Engines + associated components (including gearbox) of race cars in trophy positions at the end of the year MUST be available for checking & stripping.

The checking will be performed on/at the date and venue stated below only.

Failure to attend will result in disqualification from the 2009 Championship and exclusion from a restricted class in 2010.

Should you dispose of your car before the end of the season, please consult with your Chief Scrutineers first.

Failure to comply with these rules may lead to a ban from any restricted class, the maximum time being 2 years.

Please Note: The onus is on the driver to ensure his/her holes are drilled and tags fitted. If this is not done, the car will not be considered for Post Season Scrutineering. Any trophy position in the end of year Championship will automatically be cancelled.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL LEAGUE MEMBERS

(AND PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS)

As we all know, Autograss is MUCH cheaper to compete in than virtually any other form of motor sport.

One of the main reasons for this is that the whole structure of Autograss depends on unpaid voluntary labour - from the NASA Directors down, NOBODY is paid for their work organising Autograss racing.

However, the other side of this is that ALL club members need to be prepared to take on their fair share of this work.

IF YOU WANT TO RACE, BUT NOT BE INVOLVED IN THE CLUB WORK, AUTOGRASS IS NOT FOR YOU - YOU NEED TO BE LOOKING AT COMMERCIALLY ORGANISED FORMS OF MOTOR RACING.

The East Anglian League clubs will no longer be willing to tolerate members who expect others to do all the work, and anyone who is not being seen to contribute to the running of the clubs can expect their membership not to be renewed. There is a wide variety of jobs that need doing, so we can be very flexible in allocating suitable jobs to individual members. If you live too far away to be able to attend track work parties, we will find you an alternative job on race days. If you're new to the sport and not sure what's expected of you, please talk to one of your club's committee members, who will give you all the help and advice you need.
